The Renfrewshire Recycling Centre in Underwood Road, Paisley, will provide facilities where residents from across Renfrewshire can recycle a wide range of items and materials.

To support recycling coming from a wider catchment area, the opening hours of the new Recycling Centre will be extended to 8am-8pm, every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The current recycling centres at Erskine, Renfrew, Linwood and Johnstone will remain open as self-service Neighbourhood Recycling Facilities where residents can continue to recycle paper and cardboard; plastics; clothes, textiles and shoes; metal cans and tins; food cartons and glass.

Councillor Eddie Devine, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment policy Board, said:

‘Renfrewshire residents have an excellent recycling record and we want to do everything we can to ensure that this continues.

‘By making these changes, keeping the four sites in Renfrew, Johnstone, Erskine and Linwood open but converting them to neighbourhood recycling facilities, we are keeping a valuable recycling service in five towns across the local authority area and avoiding making employees redundant.

‘The council invests £12million on waste collection every year and has spent £1.25million on upgrading the Renfrewshire Recycling Centre in Paisley. This commitment has led to higher than average levels of recycling in our area.

‘We want to make the transition to the new arrangements as smooth as possible for regular recyclers.

‘The four neighbourhood recycling facilities will therefore be staffed over the transition period to make sure users understand the new service before becoming self-service.’

All of the recycling facilities will be monitored by CCTV and supported by a mobile supervision team to ensure that illegal fly-tipping is not carried out at the sites.
