The St Mirren chief executive joined forces with Renfrewshire Sports Charity and Paisley MSP George Adam to launch the inspirational Move Renfrewshire project which aims to give hundreds of local folk a unique opportunity to change their lives.

Pro-Life Fitness Centre, which is run by RSC to raise funds for ACCORD and St Vincent’s hospices, is giving Buddies and those who live elsewhere in the area, free access to the gym and their excellent first class facilities for the whole of June.

And those who take up the challenge to get moving will also enjoy the chance to take part in a wide range of classes from Body Combat and Body Pump to spin,  Kettlebells,  yoga and Bokwa without spending a penny.

Former Saints captain Tony praised the bold move and said:”This is an exceptional opportunity for the whole community who can get involved and I intend to take up this offer myself. I have a long-standing relationship with Pro-Life and I am so impressed with the work they do here in Renfrewshire that I am backing this scheme.

“Not only do they support our hospices but young sports stars of the future too and this move by them is just immense.  I would urge anyone who has always wanted to go along to the gym but couldn’t muster up the courage to forget about the fear.

“Take the first step through those doors and you will see how welcome you will be made. There’s a fantastic team here who are always happy to help. You will become part of the Pro-Life family. It really could be a life changing moment.

“It’s not all beautiful models and bodybuilders at Pro-Life; it is just ordinary folk like me. I really hope folk will realise what a great chance this is and take advantage of the scheme. My advice would be to use the free month to see how good it feels after some exercise; some me time. It really is quite a unique and wonderful idea.”

Politician and former Pro-Life member George Adam admitted he hasn’t been to the gym for around two years but is determined to make time to get back into a healthy regime despite his busy schedule at Holyrood and in his constituency.

He said: “I think this is a superb chance for the people of Paisley to look after themselves in a positive way without having to think about where the money is going to come from to go to the gym.

“I was at my best and healthiest when I was coming along here and the fact that every pound profit goes to help two other great charities is absolutely incredible. I know the tremendous work our hospices do and how Renfrewshire Sports Charity is striving to boost their funds.

“I’m happy to be lending my support to such a worthwhile cause and I hope people take advantage of such a superb scheme. I have vowed to make time for myself to get to the gym and I think everyone should.

“If it is something you have ever wanted to do – now is the time at Pro-Life. It is not often such a great chance comes around. I hope Renfrewshire does get moving in June.”

Gayle Brannigan, chief executive at RSC, who came up with the impressive move to offer everybody a free month at Pro-Life, said: “The benefit of exercise to good health is well recorded and the professional team of experts here are striving to make sure our community has the best chance possible to live well and long.

“We realise there are people who would love to come to the gym and for one reason or another never make it along so we are opening the doors to everyone for a month so that those who are cash-strapped or just don’t know how to make the first move to fitness can come along to see what’s on offer and enjoy our facilities without spending a penny.

“Our team is ready and excited at the prospect of getting Renfrewshire moving and welcoming lots of new faces through our doors. We know times can be hard for some people struggling to make their money stretch and the gym is a luxury.

“So we want to make it possible for everyone to get moving in June by taking advantage of this special offer.”
