A £1.3million state-of-the-art community safety hub has been officially opened in Renfrewshire.

The facility, in Mill Street Paisley, is the base for Renfrewshire Community Safety Partnership which brings together a range of council and police approaches and services on community safety issues.

The building features a new state-of-the art control room for monitoring and analysing CCTV footage in public spaces across Renfrewshire.

Renfrewshire Council and Police Scotland believe bringing these services together under one roof will lead to better information sharing and improved outcomes for communities in Renfrewshire.

Among those working there are police officers and council teams dealing with a wide range of community safety issues such as noise nuisance, dog fouling, vandalism and neighbour disputes.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board said:

“Renfrewshire has a strong track record of partnership working on community safety and the formal opening of the community safety hub is another important milestone in that progress

“In addition to the improvements in day-to-day working relationships, the development of this hub also contributes to strategic priorities for the Council, especially our bid for City of Culture 2021, as we aim to reduce anti social behaviour for the benefit of residents and visitors.”

Police Scotland Divisional Commander of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Division, Chief Superintendent Jim Downie said:

‘Working in partnership with other agencies ensures that we are able to deliver the best service to the communities of Renfrewshire.

“The new partnership hub allows this joined up approach to be enhanced by further improving the service we are able to provide to our communities. It will provide a focal point to promote daily partnership working which will make our communities safer.’
