PAISLEY PIRATES-UPDATE

Paisley Pirates face one of their biggest challenges of the season so far when they lock horns with the Edinburgh Capitals this coming Sunday at Braehead Arena (face off 6.00 pm).

Both sides are coming off the back of big wins last weekend, the Capitals beating bottom of the table Kimarnock 17-0, while the Pirates recorded one of their best wins of the season to date, beating North Ayr Wild 10-2 away from home, recording not just their first away league win of the campaign, but rattling up 24 goals in the course of their last two games.

It was a good performance by the team on Saturday at North Ayr,” confirmed coach Ian Turley. “We had nine different scorers in the match, but once again the defence did a great job in only conceding two against what had up until then be a free scoring home side. I felt that once we settled things down after they had gone two ahead, there was only ever going to be one winner, and that was us. I was actually expecting a bit more from the home side, but maybe any drop in their performance level was due to the fact that we were in control for most of the game.”

We didn’t give them any chance to come back at us in the way we did when we were two down, and you have to be able to recover from a bad period in the game. We did, they didn’t, and we won well in the end. Some wins are a little sweeter than others, and I know that with a number of ex-Wild players in our squad, a few of whom got on the scoreboard on Saturday, it was a very happy dressing room after the match.”

We’ve now got another tough looking fixture in the shape of the Edinburgh Capitals coming to Braehead Arena on Sunday. We know to our cost that they’ve got a number of players in their side with Elite League experience, as they beat us in the Autumn Cup semi final over two legs, but this is league business and we’ve already beaten them, albeit narrowly, in the home leg of that competition. We know we’re capable of beating anyone at Braehead, but, equally, they’ve dropped a few points recently so they’ll be coming looking to get their show back on the road.”

It’s got the makings of another cracking match, so we’re hopeful once again that the supporters will turn out in numbers to give us every ounce of backing that they can muster. They’ve been a little quiet in a few matches recently, but on Sunday we need them to turn up the volume to full blast, as in games such as these you want every weapon you’ve got in your armoury to be working flat out. A noisy support can sometimes make the difference between winning and losing, so we want to hear them!”
