Small Business Saturday is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. Small Business Saturday itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year (Saturday 5th December 2015), but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses.

In the run up to Small Business Saturday, Gavin Newlands MP visited Hope Dairy and Sweets and Treats Café – two small businesses in the heart of Renfrew – to raise awareness of Small Business Saturday.

Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“I am delighted to support the Small Business Saturday campaign. The small businesses in our towns and villages are undoubtedly the backbone of our economy and it is incredibly important that we support them – because the reality is that we either use them or lose them. I hope people from across Renfrewshire to back small businesses in our communities this Saturday and shop local this weekend.”

Bob Davidson, Chief Executive of Renfrewshire Chambers of Commerce, said:

“The Chamber always supports Small Business Saturday. Small businesses are able to provide a product offering and service that is different from larger chains – so I always recommend that small businesses really focus on having great products with great service – and if you can offer that consistently, customers become loyal and keep coming back.”
