A HOST of cafés across Renfrewshire will distribute a popular book to customers as part of a national festival.

‘Reasons to Stay Alive,’ by Matt Haig is a moving memoir highlighting his own battle with depression and journey towards recovery.

It’s being distributed as part of the Renfrewshire strand of the Scottish Mental Health Film and Arts Festival and will be available in selected cafes from the 9th of October until the end of the month.

Organisers sourced over 70 books hoping the public will engage by popping in for a coffee, picking up the book and passing it on.

Popular Paisley café Saporito’s is just one venue involved and also playing host to other events throughout October.

Ta Ta Bella’s Tearoom and Deli Malatso will both also share copies.

The book will also be available to browse at the Bobbin in Kilbarchan, PapaMacs and Delectables in Johnstone, Cucinaa Minucci at the Junction, Lochwinnoch, Café Su and Sweets and Treats based in Renfrew and in Erskine Café Unique.

Read it, Pass it on – encourages readers to discuss what they thought of the book through both book inserts and social media.

Participants can take to Twitter and share comments using #readitpassiton or get involved with discussions on Facebook page, Renfrewshire Mental Health Arts & Film Festival.

Sarah Grant, creative arts co-ordinator for the nhs NetWork Service hopes this will spark more conversations for change about mental ill health.

She said: “It’s hoped that the book will inspire many conversations about how we all struggle with our mental health at times.

“This may be in the many cafes the book is available or through our social media platforms.

“We hope people will read the book and then pass it on to someone they know who will find it beneficial.”
