Renfrewshire men are set to walk the length of Paisley High Street wearing high-heeled shoes – to help raise awareness of sexualised violence against women.

The quirky part of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes campaign brings men and women together to highlight the issue and improve understanding of how it can be eradicated in the future.

Renfrewshire’s event takes place on Wednesday 14 October at 12pm as supporters will walk from the top of Paisley High Street to its finish in Dunn Square.

On conclusion of the march, participants will be able to sign a pledge to support the cause while there will be guest speakers in attendance to discuss the subject.

Men are asked to don high heels for the walk to show their support and while they may raise a smile, they will far more importantly raise awareness of such an important issue.

If high heels aren’t possible then supporters are asked to wear red to create a sea of colour in support of the campaign.

Councillor Iain McMillan, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Social Work, Health and Well-being Policy Board, said: “The march provides an opportunity for men and women to unite to raise awareness of this important issue. It is vital this is brought to the public’s attention so we can move towards eradicating it once and for all.
“I encourage all genders and ages to join the march and walk together to take a stand against sexualised violence.”

If you wish to participate please contact Johannes Gonani at jgonani@wsrec.co.uk

Donations of high heels, size 7 and above, are sought and these can be handed in to Renfrewshire House.
