Following a successful pilot scheme, Renfrewshire Council is to consider broadcasting all meetings of the full council online.

The move comes after the completion of a year-long trial of the webcasting of council meetings.

Six meetings have been broadcast since last May – attracting an average of 767 unique viewings either live or on archive. Research shows that the majority of people watch the archived rather than the live version.

Following a successful pilot scheme, Renfrewshire Council is to consider broadcasting all meetings of the full council online.

The move comes after the completion of a year-long trial of the webcasting of council meetings.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall said: “There’s a lot of discussion just now about how to involve people in politics.

“Webcasting lets our community see how the council makes decisions affecting them. Ultimately, that makes the council more open and accountable to the people we serve.”

Councillors will vote on whether to maintain online broadcasting at a meeting of Renfrewshire Council on Thursday 25 June.

Consideration will also be given to webcasting other board meetings of the council.
