Homes boasting ‘the best views in Paisley town centre’ have gone on sale in the town’s iconic Arnotts building – and househunters are already snapping them up.

Eleven luxury apartments – dubbed Abbey View – are being built on the upper three floors of the listed frontage of the former department store on Gauze Street, with four sold within hours of going on sale last week.

The same project – due for completion in November – will also see a commercial unit built on the ground floor, with tenants still to be announced.

That work is phase two of the plan to bring the historic site back into use, with Link Group’s now-completed development of 31 flats for affordable rent on the corner of Gauze Street and Lawn Street to receive their first residents this summer.

The Arnotts flats are being built and marketed by Park Lane Developments, who are joint owners of the site, alongside Renfrewshire Council.

Council Leader Mark Macmillan met Park Lane’s joint managing director Sean Robinson to hear about the plans first hand.

Councillor Macmillan said: “The Arnotts site is of huge historical significance to Paisley and many residents will have fond memories of shopping there.

“This project doesn’t just keep an outstanding piece of architecture alive, it is bringing people into the town centre to live, with all the benefits that brings to business.

“These flats will be spectacular and – looking out over the Abbey and town hall – will offer some of the best views to be found anywhere in the town.

“The fact the site was empty for so many years but is now home to such high-quality development sends a clear message – Paisley town centre is turning a corner.

“The evidence of that is all around us, with a fourth block of flats being built over the road at The Cloisters, plans being formed for a multi-million revamp of Paisley Museum, and work gathering pace on the town’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021.”

Sean Robinson, joint managing director of Park Lane Developments, said: “Park Lane are delighted to be bringing back to life this iconic Paisley town centre building.

“The building is being transformed in to just 11 individual spacious homes in this unique location, and there has been strong initial interest with the first four being snapped up within hours of being put on sale.

“Works on site are now well advanced and we expect to have the project completed before the end of the year.”
