Local residents and businesses in Renfrew have been invited to view the details of the proposed Simplified Planning Zone that is being prepared for Renfrew Town Centre at an open day at Renfrew Town Hall on Wednesday 3 June 2015.

A Simplified Planning Zone (SPZ) is an initiative that allows businesses and property owners to make small scale changes to their property without the need of a formal Planning Application and is seen by the Council as a further commitment to boost town centres and encourage investment.

Councillor Terry Kelly, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Planning and Property Policy Board, said, “I hope that Renfrew’s residents and businesses will take advantage of the event on 3 June to examine the Draft Simplified Planning Scheme and to express their views on how they want to see the town centre continue to be a focus for community and economic development.”

The Draft SPZ Scheme approved unanimously by the Planning & Property Board on May 12, provides a framework that limits unacceptable uses in the town centre but at the same time reduces the burden on businesses and residents who are looking to carry out small scale changes that will benefit the town.

Details of the scheme have been delivered to every property within the proposed SPZ area and locally based community organisations and as well as the Open Day that will run from 9am to 8pm, interested parties can view the plans on the Council’s website where they can also submit any feedback.”
