A roadshow is visiting five Renfrewshire locations to promote the message that people do not have to suffer nuisance noise in silence.

Renfrewshire Council noise enforcement team has organised the roadshow as part of National Noise Action Week which runs from 18-23 May.

The times and locations of the roadshow are:

  • Monday 18 May – Paisley Town Centre
  • Tuesday 19 May – Morrisons, Johnstone
  • Wednesday 20 May – ASDA, Linwood
  • Thursday 21 May – Morrisons, Anchor Mill, Paisley
  • Friday 22 May – Braehead Shopping Centre

The enforcement team will be on hand to give advice about nuisances such as loud music, late night parties, noisy DIY and barking dogs.

As well as providing information and advice to the public about nuisance noise, enforcement officers will discuss how they investigate complaints from members of the public.

If an officer determines that noise is caused by antisocial behaviour and exceeds permitted levels, they can issue offenders with a warning notice. If the offender does not comply with the warning notice, they can be issued with a £100 fixed penalty.

Councillor Eddie Devine, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s environmental Policy Board, said:

“Nuisance noise can be a blight on people’s lives, and if it isn’t dealt with it can lead to health problems and disputes between neighbours.

“Most disputes about noise are settled amicably. Where that cannot be achieved, the council’s noise enforcement team provides an important service that helps to maintain harmony and good relations within communities.

“Our key message is that we can offer practical help to prevent problems from escalating and to resolve serious problems.”

Noise Action Week provides an opportunity for local authorities, housing providers, mediation services, community support teams and others work to raise awareness of services that deal with noise problems.

The noise enforcement team can be contacted during council office hours on 0300 300 0380. They also provide a late night service on Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm to 4am (last call 3.30am).

Outside of these times, complaints about noise should be made to the police by telephoning 101.
