Christmas and New Year revellers will once again be well looked after this December thanks to Renfrewshire Council’s festive safety campaign.

Some of the council’s wardens will be doubling up as taxi marshals in Paisley’s County Square over the next few weekends to make sure partygoers get home safely.

The Safe Bus will sit either on High Street or New Street in the centre of town, and will be staffed by wardens, paramedics from the Red Cross, and high visibility police officers. It will also be accompanied by a paramedic vehicle.

The bus will be equipped to provide a safe space for partygoers and will allow staff to offer support to the public if required. Wardens and police will also be carrying out their usual street patrols.

The Safe Bus and taxi marshals will be out on the weekends of 12/13 and 21/22 December, while there will also be taxi marshals on the 28th, 29th and 31st. Street pastors will also be on hand to direct people to the Safe Bus.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: “The festive season is always a busy time for nights out and partying, and while it’s important to have a good time it’s also important to look after yourself and your friends.

“It’s great for local pubs and restaurants to be so busy, but it does mean that there is extra pressure on the authorities to make sure everyone is kept safe.

“By having extra services like the taxi marshals and the Safe Bus, it makes it easier for the public to stay safe during the festive season.

“The majority of people out in the town will have a good time without need any assistance, but our wardens will be on hand should they need any help.”
