A shop that was opened to help tenants in Renfrewshire mutually exchange their homes has seen 1664 customers in its first year.

The Renfrewshire Homexchange Shop is the first of its kind in Scotland and for the past year has seen the council and seven partner housing associations come together to help tenants who want to move to a property that’s better suited to their needs.

Since the shop opened its doors in Paisley Town Centre 12 months ago, it has seen 1664 customers.

Nearly 400 of these customers attended an arranged interview to discuss exchanging their home.

Over 700 customers registered for a mutual exchange through the on line service provided.

In total there have been 37 mutual exchanges –80% of the 46 mutual exchanges that have taken place in the last 18 months since new under-occupancy rules were introduced by the UK government.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of the Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: “The approach we took with our partners and to open a shop where tenants could receive dedicated support to exchange their homes was both innovative and worthwhile.

“By working closer than ever with partner housing associations, we’re doing all we can to support tenants who feel that their home no longer meets their requirements.”

You can make an appointment to speak with an Adviser to discuss your housing options. If you are a council or housing association tenant and you want to move, please call the Homexchange Shop to arrange an appointment, you can also register on our exchange lists and search for suitable exchanges.

The shop is a partnership between the council and Linstone, Paisley South, Ferguslie Park, Willimsburgh, Sanctuary, Horizon, and Link Housing Associations.

The Homexchange Shop is located at 7a Moss Street, Paisley, and can be contacted on 0300 300 0222.
