Pirates swoop to sign new players

On the eve of Pirates’ first home game at the Braehead Arena, coach Ian Turley has swooped to sign 2 young players to strengthen his squad.

Making their debuts for the club against the Belfast Giants this Saturday (face off 5.30pm) will be 23 year old defender Cieran Quinn, most recently playing for Solway Sharks in the English Ice Hockey League, and 18 year old forward Liam Riddell, latterly with SNL rivals North Ayrshire Wild.

“It’s my policy not to bring in new players unless I think they will improve the squad, and in this instance I think we’ve signed two guys who very much fit that description,” said a clearly delighted Turley. “Liam played with Paisley Junior Development at the Lagoon before moving to North Ayr and we’re delighted to bring him back to Paisley. Although he’s only 18, he’s played for the Scotland Under-19 team in the last two seasons and clearly is a developing talent.”

“Cieran has already iced with a host of other sides, including the two Dundee teams in the SNL, as well as a few teams in England at a good level of ice hockey, and has already represented Great Britain at Under-18 level, so at 23 he’s already a seasoned campaigner in spite of his relatively tender years. I’m absolutely delighted to be able to bring in two such young talents and I’m sure our supporters will be as pleased as I am to be adding them to our roster.”
