Over 115,000 passengers expected over weekend

Glasgow Airport is gearing up for what is traditionally one of its busiest periods of the year, as tens of thousands of holidaymakers prepare to take to the skies for the October holiday week.

More than 115,000 people are expected to pass through the airport between Friday 10 and Monday 13 October with many jetting off to popular sunspots such as the Canary Islands, Tunisia, Dubai and Florida.

Airlines including Thomas Cook, Thomson Airways, Virgin Atlantic, easyjet and are all anticipating a busy holiday weekend, and Glasgow Airport will have extra staff in place to offer assistance to help guide passengers, especially those with young children, through check-in.

Francois Bourienne, Glasgow Airport’s commercial director, said: “The October holiday week is always a busy time of year at the airport with families using the school holidays to enjoy some time in the sun before the winter sets in. A number of our airline partners are adding extra flights over the course of the week to accommodate increased demand from passengers. The atmosphere in the terminal is always fantastic in the lead up to and during the October holiday week, and we will have more staff on duty to ensure our passengers enjoy a smooth journey through the airport.”

Earlier this month Glasgow Airport further strengthened its long haul connectivity after Canadian airline WestJet announced it is to introduce daily, direct flights between Glasgow and Halifax, Nova Scotia during summer 2015. Virgin Atlantic also announced it is increasing capacity from Glasgow to Orlando next year, with an additional 3,500 departure seats on the route over June, July, September and October.

Ryanair will start operating from Glasgow Airport later this month, and is expected to generate more than 850,000 passengers per year with 55 weekly return flights. The news comes after the airport reported its busiest summer in six years with almost 2.5 million passengers travelling during the peak summer months of June, July and August.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
