Leisure bosses relax child swim rules.

LEISURE bosses have relaxed the rules on how many children one adult can take into a swimming pool.

Up until recently, every child under the age of five had to be accompanied by an adult.
But now Renfrewshire Leisure – the management trust that runs sports and leisure centres – has decided that one adult can take two children under the age of eight into their pools.

The move comes after sports and leisure industry body, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity changed their guidelines on adults accompanying children in swimming pools.

Renfrewshire Leisure chief executive, Joyce McKellar said: “For some time we have been well aware of – and have had some sympathy with – the view that the previous rules were restrictive on families with one adult only being to take one child into our pools.

“We welcome the change in guidelines from the CIMSPA and are sure that the new rules still afford a high level of safety for children coming to our pools.

“I also have no doubt that many parents will also welcome the change.”
Renfrewshire Leisure runs five pools locally – The Lagoon, in Paisley; Johnstone Sports Hub; The ON-X, in Linwood; Renfrew Victory Baths and Erskine Swimming Pool.
