Popular Paisley road race on pace for personal best.
Paisley’s popular 10k Road Race and Fun Run looks set to be bigger than ever this year as race organisers remain on pace for a record number of entries.
The 2014 edition takes place on Sunday 31 August and more than 1,400 runners are already confirmed for the full-distance race – almost 400 more than at the equivalent pre-race stage last year.
With a further 500 fun runners also a major increase on the 2013 numbers, race organisers Renfrewshire Council are predicting a great day of sporting and family fun.
In a further boost, runners registering online have also donated over £1,200 to the British Heart Foundation in a tie-up with the charity to promote the Paisley Heart Town message.
Online registration for the event is available at www.paisley10k.com until 12noon on Friday 29 August.
Councillor Jim Harte, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Sport, Leisure and Culture Policy Board, said: “This has been Scotland’s summer of sport and it’s great to see that reflected here in Renfrewshire too, with the road race and fun run going from strength to strength.
“This is a real fixture in Renfrewshire’s sporting calendar and everyone from talented competitive athletes to first–timers gets something out of taking part. Even if you’re not running, get out on the route and cheer those who are, your support should help spur them on!
“It’s also hugely encouraging to see how much has been raised already for the Paisley Heart Town campaign. Regular exercise and participation in sport helps tremendously with heart health so it’s good to see that message being shared so widely. The British Heart Foundation will have a stall in the town centre and we’d appreciate people stopping by and donating.”
