Take a Walk of Hope this August

Throughout August Renfrewshire’s national charity, the Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA), is appealing for people to organise a Walk of Hope to raise some much needed funds.

Part of the Paisley based organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations they are looking for volunteers young and old to lace up their boots and get out on the paths and tracks.

“We’re not looking for everyone to organise a major expedition but that would be great if you could,” said fundraising coordinator, Linda Byars.

“Anything at all from a walk round the park to climbing a Munro can all make a huge difference to the support we can deliver to families living with Huntington’s disease (HD).

HD is a hereditary progressive condition that causes changes to muscle control, thinking processes and can cause long-term mental health issues. Those living with the condition will require 24 hour care as it progresses into its later stages. Each child of someone diagnosed with HD is at 50% risk of developing the condition themselves. There
is no cure.

The SHA is the only charity in the country that supports families affected by the condition.

“There are around 5000 people potentially affected by this devastating condition across the country. Any funds raised can make a huge difference to the quality of life of people we support.
