World Cup fever hits Street Stuff
Young footballers in Renfrewshire inspired by this summer’s World Cup can compete in their own version thanks to the popular Street Stuff programme.
While the action is taking place in Brazil, Street Stuff will host its own tournament at the St Mirren Carbrini@JD airdome, with games played on Friday and Saturday nights from 13 June – 12 July.
Young people aged 10-18 can enter a seven-a-side team to compete in the tournament.
Councillor Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said: “Street Stuff has gone from strength-to-strength and we had over 400 players at our football festival last month when we celebrated our fifth ‘season’. We also had Street Stuff players showing their skills to the crowd during half-time of the Scotland v The Netherlands under-21 match.
“The World Cup will feature the game’s superstars and I’m sure the likes of Messi and Ronaldo will inspire young people to get out there and try to emulate the skills they’ve seen.”

The award-winning Street Stuff programme is designed to divert young people away from possible antisocial behaviour and has lowered youth disorder rates across Renfrewshire.
Street Stuff is a partnership between Renfrewshire Council, St Mirren Football Club, Engage Renfrewshire, Scottish Football Association, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue.
