Search is on for ‘best bar none’ in Renfrewshire

The search is on again to find the best and safest places in Renfrewshire to enjoy a drink.

Renfrewshire Council and Police Scotland have launched the 2014/2015 edition of their Best Bar None awards.

The scheme, first introduced in 2012, rewards those pubs and clubs providing locals with a safe environment for responsible drinking.

Premises score gold, silver or bronze award status according to a set of nationally-applied standards. Licence holders pay £25 to join the scheme and display their Best Bar None accreditation in their premises.

Six premises achieved gold status last year with Kilty Kilty in Paisley voted the best bar and the Ferry Inn, Renfrew, voted the best pub.

Councillor Christopher Gilmour, Depute Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said: “Best Bar None is a really strong initiative and over the past couple of years it’s done a lot to spread the word about how many quality licensed premises we have where you can enjoy a great night out.”

“Hopefully, this launch event today will encourage even more bars and pubs in Renfrewshire to take part and show the good practice in our local premises.”

Sgt Gail Fitzpatrick, Local Licensing Officer in Paisley, said, “I am delighted that the awards will take place for another year. Renfrewshire is lucky to have so many well-run licensed premises where people can enjoy a drink, knowing that they are in safe hands.

“It’s great that so many premises have already achieved accredited status and set such a high standard. I’m looking forward to seeing many more taking up the challenge to be the next Best Bar None in Renfrewshire.”
