Provost’s charity drive at local leather plant

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall brought charity into the workplace at a local leather plant.

Provost Hall earned a day’s wages at Bridge of Weir Leather Company to raise money for a charitable cause close to her heart.

The company will also donate £500 to the Provost’s charity scheme.

The money raised will be shared equally among the four charities – Renfrewshire Carers’ Centre, RAMH (Recovery Across Mental Health) and two hospices – Accord and St Vincent’s – chosen by Provost Hall to feature in a special charity giving scheme during her term as Provost.

Last year, Provost Hall launched the charity giving scheme with an abseil from the roof of Renfrewshire Council’s HQ in Paisley. The event raised almost £5,000.

Since then, Provost Hall has worked for her charities at the Piazza shopping centre, Paisley in December and the Phoenix car dealership, Paisley in February.

At the Bridge of Weir plant, Provost Hall got to grips by finishing and cutting leather alongside fellow workers and apprentices.

Provost Hall said, “I really felt part of the team at Bridge of Weir Leather plant. I worked with some really great people who took time to lead and train me as I worked beside them.

“Bridge of Weir Leather is dedicated to training and developing local young people through their award-winning apprenticeship academy, and I have been proud to meet some of these young people during my day here.

“People will be able to support the four charities by sponsoring them directly. Contact details of the charities are available by clicking the links at www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/provostcharities. The funds raised will be split equally between the organisations.”

Karen Marshall, Managing Director at Bridge of Weir Leather Company, said, “We really enjoyed having Provost Hall working alongside us today in a variety of roles within the finishing department, laboratory facility and cutting department. There was a real excitement around the plant and the staff were really pleased to show Provost Hall their skills and expertise.

“We are pleased to be able to support Provost Hall in fundraising for her chosen charities and to donate £500 to this worthwhile cause”.
