Paisley 10K fights to mend broken hearts

The Paisley 10K Road Race and Fun Run is again teaming up with a leading heart charity when the event returns on Sunday 31 August.

Proceeds from the day will go to the British Heart Foundation Scotland.

The BHF is the biggest independent funder of heart research in the UK and the event will raise funds for its ‘Mending Broken Hearts’ appeal.

Paisley is one of three Scottish ‘Heart Towns’, a scheme where entire communities come together to join the fight against heart disease.

Last year’s Paisley event raised £1500 from runners’ donations when signing up and with participation increasing, it is hoped the race can beat this figure this time around.

Carole Nicol, of BHF Scotland, said, “Unfortunately heart disease remains one of Scotland’s biggest killers, but the vital funds we hope to raise through this year’s event will help us to fight for every heartbeat.”

Councillor Jim Harte, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Sport, Leisure and Culture Policy Board said, “We are proud to once again link up with the British Heart Foundation as part of the annual 10K Road Race and Fun Run.

“The race is growing year on year and is helping people to pursue a healthy lifestyle. More and more people are getting active and are raising thousands for a worthy cause while doing it.

“With this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, now is the time to sign up for this year’s Paisley event.”

The race is sponsored again this year by MEPC Hillington Park.
