Hawkhead Village desirable place to live’ says Provost

An historic Paisley building has been restored to its former glory by Kier Homes as part of its Hawkhead Village development.

Anne Hall, Provost of Paisley, unveiled a commemorative plaque during a VIP reception at The Gatehouse, Hawkhead Village, to mark the refurbishment of the listed Thomas Smith Tait building.

Kier Homes is transforming the former site of Hawkhead Hospital into a residential community which combines both new build homes and a number of bespoke, carefully refurbished properties that will be created within several impressive buildings.

Originally opened in 1936, the art deco Gatehouse off Hawkhead Road will be used as a marketing suite and eventually converted into a home.

Councillors, architects, Kier Homes’ experts and other guests also gathered to mark the launch of a show home for the new phase of townhouses at Hawkhead Village, of which a number have already been reserved off plan.

Nick Moore, deputy managing director of Kier Homes, said: “This is an historic day for Paisley and Kier Homes. I think renowned architect Thomas Smith Tait would have been greatly impressed by the care and attention which has been lavished on his Gatehouse some 78 years after its doors first opened.”

“It gives me real pleasure to stand here and see this spectacular Gatehouse, the first of the refurbished buildings Kier has delivered for this community through a real team effort. Together with our new homes at Hawkhead Village, they make-up an enviable place to live.”

Provost Hall told the audience: “Hawkhead Hospital consisted of some historically and culturally significant buildings by Thomas Smith Tait, the most important Scottish architect of the inter-war period. It is good to see these buildings being restored and converted into highly desirable homes by Kier Homes Caledonian. This prestigious development is likely to be one of the most desirable places to live in Paisley.”

“I am pleased to see this site being developed in a sympathetic manner that retains the original design features at this historic location. The townhouses we are also launching today have some art deco touches and were specifically designed for Hawkhead Village.”
