PASSENGER GROWTH CONTINUES AT GLASGOW AIRPORT

Passenger numbers up 4.9% in April 2014

Over 576,300 people travelled through Glasgow Airport in April 2014 ensuring it was able to record yet another month of growth.

Passenger numbers were up 4.9% compared to the same period last year, with domestic and international traffic up 2.4% and 7.9% respectively.

In addition to welcoming an increased number of passengers, Glasgow Airport created Scottish aviation history in April when it became the first Scottish airport to welcome the world’s largest commercial aircraft, the A380. Emirates operated the special one-off service to commemorate 10 years of serving Scotland.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “The arrival of Emirates’ A380 ensured April was an extremely memorable month for Glasgow Airport. We also enjoyed a busy Easter period and celebrated the launch of a number of new routes including easyJet’s flights to Kos and the decision by Citywing to reinstate a direct service to the Isle of Man.

“We are continuing to benefit from the city’s success in securing large scale events such as BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend which will take place later this month. Glasgow will also host a number of major conferences during May which play an important role in attracting inbound business tourism. We will continue to work closely with our city partners to further enhance Glasgow’s international standing and with events such as the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup still to come, it promises to be an exciting summer.”
