Paisley Museum becomes the ‘Museum of Light’ to celebrate Museums at Night 2014
For the third year running, Paisley Museum and Coats Observatory will be taking part in the annual after-hours celebration of Museums at Night on Saturday 17 May. For one night only, Paisley Museum will be transformed into the ‘Museum of Light’ with various light-themed activities for all the family. Join in the celebrations and be taken on an illuminating journey from Earth to the Stars!
The fun begins at 7.30pm with various activities and workshops on offer. Test out your creative skills and create your own light photography, or drop into the various science and art workshops on offer throughout the early evening. If you prefer just to soak up the atmosphere, several classic sci-fi films from the 1950s will be screened in the Pillar Gallery.
From 9.30pm, visitors will be able to access the telescopes at Coats Observatory dome, where they will be given the opportunity to view a rare astronomical event – when Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible in the sky simultaneously.
All activities are free of charge, however the ‘Painting with Light’ sessions are bookable in advance, by calling 0141 618 5087.
‘Museums at Night’ is an annual after-hours celebration involving hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries and heritage sites. It is coordinated by Culture 24, and takes place over the weekend of Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 May 2014.
