There will also be advice about how to keep children safe when using the internet and mobile phones. Keynote speakers include Elaine Chalmers, Chief Executive of Childline Scotland, and Brian Donnelly, Director of respectme, Scotland’s anti-bullying service.

Parents and carers will also have the chance to meet the professionals who work with children and young people in Renfrewshire.

There will be a range of stalls to visit, including: Barnardos, Sleep Scotland, Save the Children, Children First, Halfords, Parentline, Police Scotland, Fire Scotland, and other local health, education and social work services.

Tim Huntingford, Independent Chair of the Renfrewshire Child Protection Committee (RCPC), said, “This is the first time we have held a Child Protection conference specifically aimed at parents and carers. The conference programme covers a wide range of important issues, from staying safe online to car seats and the importance of sleep for young brains.

“We have a range of workshops, speakers and information stalls. The conference is open to everyone and is free. I would urge all parents and carers to try and come along if they can.”

Brian Donnelly, Director of respectme, said, “respectme is delighted to be taking part in this event. It is a great way for us to reach parents and carers with vitally important messages about the risks their children face online and off. We can share things they need to know that can help make their children safer and help these parents and carers feel more confident.”

The conference runs from 11am till 6pm. More information about the conference is available on 0141 618 2599. Crèche facilities are available. Call 0141 618 7882 to book a place.
