Festive safety campaign is launched in Paisley.

Christmas and New Year revellers will be well looked after this December thanks to a festive safety campaign spearheaded by Renfrewshire Council.

Some of the council’s wardens will be doubling up as taxi marshals in Paisley’s County Square over the next few weekends to make sure party-goers get home safely.

There will also be a Safe Bus which will sit in New Street in the centre of town, staffed by wardens, paramedics from the Red Cross, and police officers.

The bus will be equipped to offer refuge to revellers and will allow staff to offer support to the public if required. Wardens and police will still be carrying out their usual street patrols.

The Safe Bus and taxi marshals will be out on the weekends of 13/14 and 20/21 December, while there will also be taxi marshals on the 27th, 28th and 31st.

Councillor Margaret Devine, deputy convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, met some of the staff who will be on duty.

She said: “We want people to have a great time during the festive period but to make sure they take care of themselves and others too.

“December is always the busiest month of the year for party nights – and while that is good news for local pubs and restaurants, it does put added pressure on the authorities to make sure everybody stays safe.

“The extra services we are putting in place in the form of taxi marshals and the Safe Bus are designed to do exactly that.

“While we are sure the vast majority of people will have a good time and be in good spirits while out and about, our staff will be on hand should they be needed to help.”
