Mòd Phàislig announces charity partner

The local organising committee for the visit of the Royal National Mòd to Paisley later this year has announced Accord Hospice as its official charity partner.

Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail (The Royal National Mòd) is Scotland’s premier festival celebrating Gaelic linguistic and cultural heritage.

The nine day celebration of Gaelic music, dance, drama, arts and literature, which takes place from Friday 11th until Saturday 19th October, is set to attract thousands of participants and visitors.

Ken Mathie from Accord Hospice said: “Being a well-known local organisation which over the years has touched the lives of thousands of people from our community, ACCORD is very proud and honoured to be associated with the Paisley Mòd.

“We look forward to having a presence at every performance and wish everyone involved with the Mòd every success.”

In addition to having collectors at all the venues throughout the period of the Mòd, there will be the traditional Grand Prize draw.

All money raised will be used to assist with the hosting of Mòd Phàislig with the remainder going direct to Accord Hospice.

The first prize of the draw is £1,000 cash, with many other prizes still to be announced. The draw will be made on Friday 18 October.

Ealasaid MacDonald, Mòd Phàislig 2013 Convener said: “We are delighted to be linking up with Accord Hospice, our official charity partner.

“They do a considerable service for Renfrewshire and we hope the visit of the Mòd can contribute to that.

“Our exciting prize draw has a number of great prizes, and a top prize of £1,000. We hope people will support the Mòd’s visit by buying a ticket, and at the same time know they are supporting one of Paisley’s most treasured organisations.”

Tickets are £1 each, £10 per book, and are available from modphaislig2013@yahoo.co.uk or 07535514385.

Running alongside the Mòd and the Mòd Fringe will be The Spree Festival (10 to 20 October), which is returning after a successful debut in 2012.

The Spree will see 10 days of music, comedy and literary events and a full children’s programme will take place in the spectacular setting of a Spiegeltent in the town’s County Square, and Paisley Abbey, celebrating its 850th anniversary this year.

Headline acts include Edwyn Collins, Capercaille, Donnie Munro, Rachel Sermanni and a unique collaboration between Admiral Fallow, The Twilight Sad and the RSNO. Top comics Craig Hill and Fred McAulay will provide the laughs. Tickets are available from www.thespree.co.uk
