Open Day at Johnstone Library

Johnstone residents are being urged to get along and enjoy an open day in the new library building on Friday 24 May.

The library has temporarily moved to 17 Collier Street while works are ongoing at its eventual home, the new Johnstone Civic Hub.

From children’s songs and stories to local history and gardening, the open day promises to have a little something for everyone, young and old.

Councillor James Harte, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s sport, leisure and policy board, said: “Libraries are a hub of activity in our communities and they offer so much more than books to borrow.”

“If you live in or around Johnstone, get yourself along for the day and see what’s going on in your local library.”

The fun begins at 10am with a Rhymetime session of traditional Scottish stories and songs for babies and toddlers. Activities for older children are planned in throughout the day

A beginners’ computing class will begin at 11am.

The library will then host ‘Gardener’s Corner’ from 2pm-4pm with green-fingered volunteers Stephen McIntosh and Pearl Stevenson answering gardening questions and handing out free seeds and pods.

Library staff will be displaying a slideshow of images from Johnstone’s past and holding a local history quiz during the afternoon.

Tea and coffee and home baking will be available throughout the day.
