Paisley historian Ellen Farmer MBE – who devoted much of her to improving the town she loved so much – has passed away.
Former mill girl Ellen, 74, died on Friday night and tributes to the woman who “had Paisley in her heart” have poured in.
She was a well-known face in the town and was a tireless campaigner with Sma’ Shot Cottages and the Thread Mill Museum, and also started Paisley Development Association, which became the Trust (PDT).
In 2004, Ellen, who was president of the Old Paisley Society, was awarded the Fellowship of the University of Paisley for helping to preserve the town’s illustrious heritage, seven years after receiving the MBE from the Queen for services to the town’s history.
