Santa visits St Vincent’s patients

Patients at St Vincent’s Hospice are in for a real treat on Friday 21st December when Santa is due to visit, followed by Christmas lunch and a pantomime performed by staff and volunteers.

Day Hospice patient Eric Burns, from Johnstone, said “I feel like a school kid again; I’m all excited because I know Santa is coming.”

st-vincents-hospiceJohn Hair of Johnstone, who also uses Day Hospice services, said “I get picked up by the hospice, brought in and taken home at the end of the day and I couldn’t make it here unless that was the case.”

“I was sent to St Vincent’s Hospice for my breathing; to learn to breathe again. I enjoy it because it’s not a big clinic, it’s welcoming and there is always somebody to listen to you. We get exercises to do and I feel I’ve really improved since coming.”

It costs £5,000 per day to run services at St Vincent’s Hospice. Specialist care is provided to all those living with cancer and other life limiting illnesses; hospice teams support the physical, psychological and emotional needs of patients and their loved ones.

Chief Exec Kate Lennon said “Christmas is such an emotional time for many people; the care provided here offers a real lifeline to local families who may find it difficult coping with illness at this time.”

“The generosity of our local community is greatly valued at this critical time, our supporters are very special people and we need their continued help to maintain the care we are providing for all our patients and their families.”
