Classic Fire Engines Roll Into Town

Paisley is set to go back in time when a host of classic fire engines roll in to town later this month.

Following the success of last year’s event, Paisley welcomes back the second Fire Engine Rally and parade hosted by the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Preservation Society.

A host of fire engines from vintage 19th century to state-of-the art modern vehicles will take to the streets of Paisley, along with other vintage emergency service appliances.

They will be lead by Kilbarchan Pipe Band from Canal Street Fire Station, along Causeyside St, St Mirren Brae, Gilmour St, and into County Square.

After the rally, all vehicles will be on display in High Street, Gilmour Street and Country Square. Music, displays and activities for all the family will also take place throughout the day.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Celia Lawson said: “Last year was the first fire engine rally in Paisley and it was a great success. This is a wonderful event and opportunity to see some of the fascinating vehicles which have been used over the years by the fire service.”

Formed around 17 years ago, the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Preservation Society is run by volunteers who have an interest in the traditions of the fire service. Most weekends they provide fire appliances to events, open days and galas as well as supporting charitable causes.

The parade starts at 11am on Saturday 17 July, at Canal Street Fire Station.
