A leading cancer charity and local Rotary have launched the annual Ayrshire Costal walk challenge in sunny Ayrshire!

Macmillan Cancer Support and Garnock Valley Rotary are looking for 200 people to sign up to take part in the walk to raise £10,000 to fund vital cancer services and help support people with polio

The walk is split into a lovely 7.5 mile afternoon walk, an invigorating 9 mile morning walk and a more challenging full day 16.5 mile route. The full day and morning event takes walkers from Saltcoats over to Portencross, where everyone can enjoy relaxing picnic, and the afternoon walkers can join up for the further walk on to Largs.

Macmillan’s Ayrshire Fundraising Manager Susan Selkirk said: “We’re encouraging families and groups of friends to participate in our scenic walk – it’s one of the simplest ways that supporters can get involved to change the lives of people living with cancer and polio – it’s promising to be fabulous day out!”

“Our walk is open to all ages of walkers and fitness levels, with 3 distances everyone can participate!”

Susan continued “The number of people in Scotland being diagnosed with cancer is around 27,000 and it is increasing every year. This means Macmillan needs to continually raise more money to be able to offer medical, emotional and financial help to those who need it.

”The work that the Rotary are doing with Polio Plus is making a huge difference to eradicate polio in developing counties, they need your support even more to ensure that the disease is eradicated”

“We are looking for 200 people who want to help us fund our vital cancer services while taking part in the walk and enjoying some beautiful Ayrshire scenery.”

The Ayrshire Coastal walk takes place on Sunday June 6th with a celebration event being hosted in Largs at the close of the walks. Everyone taking on the walk is asked to pay a registration fee of £10 to and raise £25 in sponsorship.

So why not get some fresh air and sign up to Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual Ayrshire Coastal Walk and see a part of Scotland you didn’t know existed?
