Licensing chiefs urge public to have their say.

Licensing chiefs at Renfrewshire Council are looking for new members, including young people and another local resident, to join the area’s Licensing Forum.

The forum keeps tabs on how the alcohol licensing system is working and gives advice and makes recommendation to the Licensing Board.

The Forum contains representatives from police and fire and rescue services, Renfrewshire Community Health partnership, Renfrewshire Drug and Alcohol Partnership, young people, and local residents, as well as the local licensed trade.

There are currently five vacancies on the Forum and a recruiting drive is being launched over the next couple of months to fill those vacancies.

Margaret Dymond, Forum Convener, said, “A lot of good work is being done in Renfrewshire through regulation, and training and award schemes, to keep improving standards in the licensed trade.

“Pubs and clubs can be a strong focal point in their communities.

“At the same time, we all know there can be problems associated with alcohol consumption whether that shows in people’s health or in antisocial behaviour. We want to use local knowledge to help us in tackling those issues.

“We’d stress to potential new members of the Forum that they wouldn’t be required to give up a lot of time. Meetings are quarterly and training is given to all members.

Anyone interested in potentially becoming a member should contact Paul Shiach, Committee Services Officer, Renfrewshire Council, tel 0141 608 7103 or email paul.shiach@renfrewshire.gcsx.gov.uk[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
