SCHOOL MEALS DAY-LW

Pupils serve up a feast of treats

Pupils from Park Mains High School got their sleeves rolled up and worked side by side with catering staff in serving up a range of tasty meals and treats to mark International Schools Meals Day, and raise funds for Erskine Hospital.

On the menu was a variety of international dishes including Thai green curry, American dishes and Italian pizza. Pupils baked a welcome supply of treats for sale including purple cupcakes, the corporate colours of Erskine Hospital, and a selection of cookies.

Councillor Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said, “Today’s event has been a great success and has showcased the quality and range of our school meals, and helped raise funds for charity.

“The Scottish school meals service has changed greatly over the past few years, and in Renfrewshire where around 1.3million school meals are served every year, major changes having been taking place.

“Park Mains High School pupils and parents were consulted about the kind of facilities they wanted before the build of their new school. The chosen design of the cafe and coffee bar offers an attractive place to eat that mirrors the high street and has proved hugely popular with pupils and staff alike.

“As part of the changes, the cafe model and coffee shop, at Park Mains High School will be provided in several more secondary schools. Multiple service points will offer high street food options along with an all day coffee bar service.”
