Mod Phaislig 2013 Composer to Record Winning Tune

Local Paisley resident, Grant McFarlane, has been announced as the winner of the Mòd Phàislig 2013 Tune Competition. The tune, ‘Paisley welcomes the Royal National Mòd 2013’ will celebrate the historic visit of the renowned Gaelic festival to the town in 2013.

Grant fought off stiff competition from 36 other entries and will have the honour of his composition being recorded, with the support of Reid Kerr College, and used as the official soundtrack to the Mòd Phàislig celebrations.

Judging the competition was the responsibility of three stalwarts of traditional music, Duncan Nicholson, Pipe Major of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band, Brian Laurie of the Brian Laurie Accordion Music School and Andrew Gifford of the renowned band Fiddlers Bid.

Ealasaid MacDonald, chair of Mòd Phàislig 2013, said: “We were delighted with the number and standard of entries for the tune competition. Grant’s tune will be a fantastic soundtrack to the preparations for the Mòd, and will be a lasting legacy.”

Grant and his band will be performing the tune later in the year at the Mòd Phàislig 2013 Midsummer Dance.
