Council Launches 0300 For Planning And Transport Services

Renfrewshire Council is moving customer contact to 0300 phone numbers – and planning and transport services are the first to switch.

The new contact number for planning and transport services is 0300 3000 144. This number replaces 20 different contact numbers which were previously publicised.

Customers calling the new number are able to choose the service they want before being connected with someone who can deal directly with their enquiry.

The Council is planning to introduce a series of 0300 contact numbers for all services later in the year.

Councillor Allan Noon, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s General Management Policy Board, said: “Our Customer Contact Centre alone takes more than a quarter of a million calls each year and we know the cost of handling a telephone enquiry is less than half of a face-to-face enquiry.

“The Council is a large, complex organisation and it isn’t always immediately obvious who customers should contact for help with a query. Introducing these 0300 numbers is part of a process of making more services available from fewer, and more memorable, contact numbers.

“Planning and transport services handle a lot of telephone enquiries, from people making planning applications to residents reporting road or street lighting faults, and they are in an ideal position to pilot this new service.”

0300 numbers were designated for public sector use by Ofcom and cost the same as calls to 0141 or 01505 numbers.

More information about 0300 numbers is available on www.renfrewshire.gov.uk.
