Enjoy A Fairtrade Festive Season

Fair Trade 14.9.09_0037

People in Renfrewshire are being urged to have a Fairtrade festive season.

Renfrewshire’s Fairtrade Steering Group is encouraging local residents to continue their efforts to support Fairtrade by buying goods with the approved logo this Christmas.

Councillor Brian Lawson, Chair of Renfrewshire’s Fairtrade Steering Group, said: “By buying items with the Fairtrade logo we are ensuring a better deal for the people who produced them. This is especially important at Christmas time, the season of goodwill.

“There is a fantastic and wide range of Fairtrade products available these days, so whether it’s presents, Christmas cards, wrapping paper or even decorations why not try making at least some of your Christmas shopping Fairtrade this year.”

Fairtrade items are available in several major shops and local retailers. Councillor Lawson popped into Paisley’s Rainbow Turtle shop on Gauze Street to check out their collection of festive Fairtrade goods.

Councillor Lawson added: “This has been a great year for our Fairtrade campaign with Renfrewshire and Lochwinnoch both achieving Fairtrade status at the start of the year, through to Houston Primary becoming our first official Fairtrade primary in November. Let’s all keep up this hard work by making this a Fairtrade festive season.”

This has been sent in by one of our visitors Scott Duncan, please give it your time to read it and sponosr if possible.

I want to help raise funds for charity to help people that have been affected by deaths on UK roads…

I am taking part in a parachute jump in June 09 to raise funds with a target of £1000.

Please help me raise this money… I would really appreciate any help that I can get…

Why do I care?

Four years ago I was hit by joy riders who were driving at about 100mph and hit us head on, they managed to get free from their wreck and left us trapped in our smashed up car… I learned how life is fragile and that I was very lucky to walk away from this alive… so I want to help people who have not been so fortunate as me.

Please help raise this money to help the families of people who have lost their mum, dad, sister, brother, children or anyone for that matter to a road traffic accident… Please just for a moment imagine what it must feel like to get the news that someone you love is gone and will never be back, you will never hear them laugh, see them smile in person again… it must be horrific… I know that some people reading this will have experienced these feelings in life and I hope I am not over stepping the mark…

Please help!

Scott Duncan

A Good Cause

On the 11 September I have agreed to give up my spare time and trek across the Himalayas in India. This is to help raise awareness and funds for Maggie’s cancer centres.  The Maggie’s centres provide a comprehensive cancer support programme for people and their families affected by cancer across Glasgow and surrounding areas.  By the 23rd June 2008 I have to raise a minimum of £3,000 in sponsorship money. I have several events organised to help reach this goal including a Charity Race Night, street collecting and bag packing.

As this is a massive task to  take on not only for the amount of money to raise but also for the physical challenge I would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring me on this life challenging event. By agreeing to this you will be involved in contributing to such a worth while charity.
