Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners

Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners

Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners

Can you help us make our dreams come true?

Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners (RAGG) is a new community group, which has received Big Lottery funding to create a community garden in Broadloan, Renfrew. Not a traditional allotment project, the intention is to create a community owned and controlled space which offers opportunities for all, regardless of ability, skill, income and will provide support to allow the less able to participate.

Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners A small group of volunteers has been working together to develop the concept and have now reached the stage where the building contract is out to tender and work is expected to start ‘on the ground’ soon.

A team of consultants has been commissioned to help with the training and development of the organisation, marketing and promotion of the garden, creation of systems and procedures for its long-term management.

However, the workload involved is quite considerable for this small group of volunteers. They are keen, therefore, to attract assistance over the next few months from a few experienced individuals who can contribute some time and energy to realising the plans to create a truly inclusive community asset.

RAGG is currently seeking volunteers to help in a number of ways:

  • To join the Steering Group and assist with the development of the organisation and realisation of its goals – this would suit anyone who has some committee experience and some skills in leadership and management of community projects and has a few hours to spare every month.

Note: you need not live in Renfrew to help in this way.

  • To become a volunteer and take part in the many activities required to support and maintain the garden – the opportunities range from horticulture and general garden maintenance (training will be provided) to assisting less able folk to providing web and social media support.

Note: volunteers must be Renfrew residents

Please like us and send a message on Facebook or email and we will contact you to discuss this further.

Nutshell Theatre presents Allotment at Brediland Allotments

Get out of the theatre and into… the Allotment?

Not ones for conforming to the norm, site specific specialists, Nutshell Theatre like to get out and about with their performances and engage with local communities. On June 8 they take their newest production Allotment, to Brediland Allotments in Foxbar for 3 performances of their Edinburgh Fringe Festival smash.

Allotment follows the complex and quirky relationship between sisters Dora and Maddy as they live out the seasons on their allotment, playing out their rivalries among the plants.

This dark comedy is a celebration of gardening, with the actresses digging, planting and performing on top of a shed. With changeable weather constantly shifting the nature of the Allotment, the sibling rivalry is a feast for the senses – a tale of life, death, Pink Fir Apple potatoes and the secret power of worms…There’s also tonnes of homemade scones, jam and free tea, so come along a DIG IN!

The 3 performances of Allotment begin at 2pm, 5pm and 7pm on Friday 8 June.

Allotment travels with a unique cross-generational planting project. In partnership with venues, Nutshell Theatre are pairing up local mother and toddler groups with older people from day care centres or sheltered housing in the local community.

They come together once a week to plant seeds and grow the living set for the show.

Tickets cost £10 (£6 conc) and are available online at or by calling 0141 887 1010.
