Come Along And Give Walk About A Bit an Olympic Effort

If Olympic fever has inspired you to get active but you’re keen for a gentler way to get the heart going – a 10 mile walk is being organised during August’s Big Active Weekend.‘Walk About a Bit’ will take place on Saturday 25 August with Paisley Vision 10k and Fun Run happening the next day.People taking part in the walk don’t have to walk the full 10 miles as the route has been broken down into easy, two-mile stages and those taking part can walk as far as they feel able to.

Walk About a Bit starts at 9.30am and is free to enter. The route goes from Paisley Canal Street to Castle Semple at Lochwinnoch, taking in Elderslie, Johnstone, Kilbarchan and Howwood along the way.

Staffed water stations are available along the route and walkers can start or leave the walk at any of these points. Qualified walk leaders will also be present.

Councillor Iain McMillan, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Community and Family Care Policy Board, said: “Big Active Weekend will give local people the chance to turn their Olympic buzz into a really enjoyable sporting weekend here in Renfrewshire. Walk About a Bit will take place first on the Saturday, with the 10k and the Fun Run both on the Sunday.

“The walk is free and suitable for all ages and abilities as the route is totally flat. It’s a great event for gently getting re-acquainted with exercise and having a good day out. Walking is an excellent form of exercise, so why not meet the Walk About a Bit at any of the entry/exit points along the route?”
