Old Haunts
Today I returned, to the house I once stayed,
And once again walked, on the streets where I played,
I went to the school ,where my lessons were taught,
And back to the shop, where my comics I bought,
The memory’s flood back, though there’s lots that are changed,
It still seems like home, though it’s now re-arranged,
And although the improvements, are there for to see,
I’d much rather see it, as it used to be
The wide open spaces, have long since been filled,
For wherever there’s space, there’s a house they can build,
And there is no good reason, for having a park,
For it’s no longer safe, to go out when its dark,
Where we once had our goalposts, they’ve now built a wall,
And the swings that we played on, there not there at all,
They say they’ve improved it, in so many ways,
But I much preferred it, in my childhood days
And where are the friends, and the people I knew,
In the years that have past, I have met just a few,
If I should meet some others, it would be no surprise,
If the man I am now, they would not recognise,
For just like the places, I am not the same,
And the passing of time, has to take all the blame,
But no matter the changes, my mind it is free,
To see everything, as it once used to be
