GLENIFFER BRAES written by Robert D Mc Lean:

GLENIFFER BRAES
There’s an ache in my heart,
It was there from the start,
When I left old Paisley behind.
Oh that place in the West
That I love the best,
And it’s never far from my mind.
There’s the road to the braes
Where I spent happy days,
On a carpet of heather go dreaming,
From the hill looking down
See my wonderful town
And the silver from Stanely gleaming.

To walk in Tannahill’s glen,
To be there once again,
How sweetly the hours would pass by.
How my poor heart cries
For my paradise
Where my thoughts so often will fly.
By the bracken and whin
At the side of the Linn,
In awe watch the silver fish leaping,
Where the clear waters gleam,
I would sit there and dream
‘Till the grey ghost of gloaming came creeping.

Oh I hope that some day
That I’ll make my way
To the Heaven that God made for me.
To wander once more
On these hills I adore,
And happy forever I’ll be.
With pride I will gaze,
On my native place,
With joy my heart will be singing,
From the valley below,
Hear the sound soft and low
Of the old Townhall bells softly ringing.
