Forgotten Castles:

Sent in by one of our Visitors "Allan Mitchell".

Allan sent this poem in just before remembrance day. Allan's Papa's brother was the superintendent of the First Aid Post that was destroyed in Paisley back in 1941. His name was Malcolm Mitchell. The Daily Express ran an article about him and his family back in 1991. "press here for more of Allan's Poems" ..: Or leave feedback for Allan by pressing here::.

Forgotten Castles

Here I kneel on distant shores, a young man born to play,
Upon these crimson sands and yet, no castles shall I build today. I gaze across this ocean blue, across the sands of time, To witness my own valour in a mournful pantomime.

This scarlet beach of sorrow that has caused my heart to toil, Has interned many soldiers who have shed this mortal coil. On distant lands of trouble by the shore of sandy bay, This ruined beach of glory! Yet, no castles shall I build today.

I hear the wrath of thunder, drawing closer ever near.
My heart is aching far from home, and trembling with fear.
The waves torment my fearful mind, so near to death’s decay,
So desolate a vision cries! Yet, no castles shall I build today.

The bitter water rises up as we siege foreign land,
My thirst for peace is halted by the touch of sorrow’s hand, Courageous men of honour faint and sleep to end the day,
Seeking hope and refuge, yet no castles shall I build today.

Valiant was our vision as the cries for freedom call,
These bloody shores of yesteryear see many comrades’ fall,
So who shall be the hero, of those fallen men I pray,
A rampart of true solace, yet no castles shall I build today.

Here I stand on freedom’s shore, a young man born to die,
To live these fearful memoirs, underneath a blood red sky,
The tears of fallen brothers, valiant lost amidst the spray,
On foreign shores forever, yet no castles shall I build today.

To all our sons and daughters, may the price of freedom cry, Lest we forget the fallen, on the battlefields gone bye. On distant shores of courage, that is where my soul shall stay, Still in peaceful silence, yet no castles shall I build today.
