NSDesign Hits £1k Target for Renfrewshire Charity
THE STAFF of Hillington-based company, NSDesign, have recently been doing their bit for charity.

Managing Director of the ecommerce business, Gary Ennis, pounded the pavements at the Men’s Health Forum Scotland 10k with his colleagues and managed to raise a fantastic £1,000 for the Renfrewshire Area Heart Appeal.

Gary, Kenny Roy, Martin Sarsini and Paul Elliot all completed the course in under one hour with only a few blisters between them.

Gary said:

“This was a great challenge for the team as we are not all regular runners so were pleased to finish in one piece. We were absolutely delighted to reach our target of £1,000 for the Renfrewshire Area Heart Appeal as it is a charity very close to all of us.”

Carole Nicol, Fundraising Volunteer Manager for the British Heart Foundation Scotland said:

“I would like to say a big thank you to the team at NSDesign for sponsoring the Renfrewshire Area Heart Appeal. The vital funds they have raised will help to ensure that local people living with heart disease receive consistent, highly skilled care in the diagnosis and treatment of their condition”.

Macmillan Cancer Support in the West of Scotland is seeking help from local organisations this Easter as it tries to get chocoholics involved in its egg-cellent Guess the Name competition.

The charity is asking local businesses, schools and public service organisations to pick up one of its Easter Bunny Baskets which is choc-a-block with enough Easter Eggs to satisfy any sweet tooth as well as a cuddly Easter bunny, name sheet with 100 names on it and an envelope containing the bunny’s real name to reveal the lucky prize winner.

For a donation of just £1 local people can guess the bunny’s name with the egg-static winner receiving the basket and all the mouth watering Easter goodies inside – and that’s no yolk!

Macmillan Fundraising Manager Susan Selkirk is hoping local organisations will get involved and help encourage people to shell out a little bit more this Easter to help local families affected by cancer.

She said: “We’re looking for shops, hotels, community centres and schools to take one of our fantastic Easter Bunny Baskets.

“This competition is fun for all ages and is a great way for you to engage with your customers or visitors and raise money for people affected by cancer.

“This event helps Macmillan to raise thousands of pounds each year and with your support we will continue to provide medical, financial and emotional support services to those who need it most.”

If you are interested in getting involved then hop over to the phone and call Susan at the Macmillan West of Scotland team on 0141 952 0085 or email westscotlandfundraising@macmillan.org.uk

Charity hopes to raise £50,000

A leading cancer charity is calling on people in Renfrewshire to sign up to climb the UK’s highest mountain.

Macmillan Cancer Support is looking for 100 people to sign up to take part in a 4400ft climb up Ben Nevis in the Highlands to raise cash to fund vital cancer services.

This is the charity’s first ever Ben Nevis challenge and Macmillan hopes to raise a fantastic £50,000 from the May fundraising event.

Fundraising manager for Renfrewshire Susan Selkirk said: “The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year.

“This means Macmillan needs to continually raise more money to be able to offer medical, emotional and financial help to those who need it.

“We are looking for 100 people who want to help us fund our vital cancer services while taking on a challenging climb and experiencing some of the world’s most beautiful scenery.”

The Ben Nevis challenge will kick off on Friday, May 14, with a dinner in a Fort William hotel. Climbers will conquer Ben Nevis on Saturday, followed by a celebratory dinner on Saturday night and return home on Sunday, May 16.

Everyone taking on the challenge is asked to pay a registration fee of £99 to and raise £500 in sponsorship. The registration fee covers the cost of the hotel, meals and the guides who will lead the group.

Susan added: “It will be a really fun weekend. We expect a wide variety of people to take part. We’ve already had some interest from keen hill-walkers, small groups of friends and even businesses thinking of sending staff along as a team building exercise.

“May should be a lovely time to climb Ben Nevis and really enjoy the spectacular scenery. We hope this challenge will prove very popular and we have lots of advice and tips for people on how to raise money before taking part.”

The Ben Nevis climb is one of a host of walks Macmillan has organised as part of its Walk With Us programme. The charity is also urging people who can’t take part in an official Macmillan walk to organise their own fundraising walk wherever and whenever they like.

To find out more visit www.macmillan.org.uk/walks or call 0131 260 3720.

A local lady, Freda Barton, from Glenburn Paisley has generously raised over £4,210 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Freda and her friends and family, shown here, have participated in countless activities to raise much needed funds to help support people affected by cancer in the local community. Freda and friends have participated in many events during 2009, from donning their green t-shirts at local fetes, to running the Paisley 10k, to holding a fantastic party night and even with her grandson saving up his pennies in a Macmillan Can!

“I’m delighted with the amount Freda has riased”, Susan Selkirk, fundraising manager for Macmillan in Renfrewshire, says “she’s so enthusiastic and wonderful at encouraging her friends and family into getting involved!”

“Macmillan is funded directly by donations and we couldn’t do the work that we do to help people affected by cancer without the dedication and support from people like Freda and her friends!

Freda has enjoyed her involvement and fundraising so much that she has signed up to continue to support Macmillan throughout 2010 as well – there is no stopping her!
