Adult Protection Website in Top 10 Accolade
A website, set up to raise awareness about the abuse suffered by vulnerable adults, has been rated amongst the top 10% on the Internet by cyber specialists urlspy. The www.adultprotection.tv site was built by a consortium of 24 Scottish councils as part of a hard-hitting national TV advertising campaign. It acts as an information gateway for adults who are at risk of being harmed or who know someone in danger. However, Tim Huntingford, the Independent Chair of the Renfrewshire Adult Protection Committee, isn’t letting the news go to his head, “It is excellent news that the www.adultprotection.tv site is rated in the top 10% on the Internet but we will be keeping this accolade in perspective. There are over 255million websites worldwide!” The site is currently resting at 20,505,885th place in the world rankings and 2,344,792nd place in the UK charts. Tim Huntingford said, “While we can take a light hearted look at these figures there is a very serious message behind this website. The important figure from urlspy is that over 450 people a month visitwww.adultprotection.tv looking for help and advice about the physical, emotional, sexual and financial abuse suffered by vulnerable adults in Scotland every day. “Everyone knows that children need to be protected but people don’t realise that sometimes adults need protecting too. They can become frail through old age or develop dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. And all too often there is someone ready to take advantage, frequently a member of the person’s own family.” Research carried ...

They have been announced as the winners of The Scottish Epic Awards 2011 for their inspiring film “Keep the Beat…Our Journey in Rhythm.” The Buddy Beat is an adult drumming group for people with mental health issues, born out of a musical making project at Paisley’s Dykebar Hospital and was created by Lead Occupational Therapist Jeanette Allan, Karen Auld, Senior Occupational Therapist and Community Musician Dr. Jane Bentley. Created to promote social inclusion, its aim has always been to involve people at all stages of their mental health journeys, from the hospital ward to the wider community. Buddy Beat group has gone from strength to strength and have played at more than 100 events from as far as London to Edinburgh. The group decided to tell the story of its members by means of a short video documentary, hoping this would not only tell their own story, but encourage others to get involved in arts activity for the sake of their own mental health. The entire process took five months to complete and the film was privately shown to the group in December 2010 and then at a premiere event and in April 2011 attended by around 100 invited guests including councilors, health workers, family & friends. The film has taken on a life of its own, leading to further partnerships between the group and several organizations. It has been sent out in newsletters and shown at conferences (of ...
