Another tragic anniversary

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8435191.stm

A Scottish poet who killed himself after being rejected by a publisher is to be remembered on the 200th anniversary of his death.

Robert Tannahill, also known as the Weaver Poet, was once viewed as being almost comparable to Burns.

The centenary of his death saw 15,000 people head to Paisley's Gleniffer Braes, one of his favourite spots, to listen to his songs. It is hoped that Paisley buddies and poetry lovers will again turn out in force to pay tribute to the poet.

Robert Tannahill is well known in America,Canada and France, well at least among the members of an over 40's discussion group I belong to, I represent Paisley and Scotland on the group as I'm the only Scottish member, but I'm proud to represent Paisley and Scotland in this way and Robert Tannahill and Gerry Rafferty are often discussed along with many other famous Scots.

The group owner in Texas USA is looking for recruits from Australia at the moment so if any of our friends over there are interested let me know, I hope I'm not breaking any rules by announcing this..moderators?

Thanks westender but enrolment to our group is by personal invitation only,by the owner, he found me on SU but if anyone was interested in knowing more about our group they would have to give me an email address (I usually suggest they create a disposable one, specifically for initial contact) then our owner in Texas would contact the interested party and explain what we're all about and take it from there.

As for the Tannahill link, yes I will send that, we already have a huge on line library where we cover many diverse subjects including the arts, our photo albums are bursting with photos of Scotland and many of Paisley and surrounding areas but more are always welcome, we have more than enough photos of the Abbey and Coats Memorial Church and St Mirrins.
