As a little boy staring up at two massive cannons as you walked along the high street must have been a daunting sight makeing you scurry along faster wondering if they would go off and haveing your fingers ready to plug your ears just incase at the unimaginable noise, Today in the same location your more likley to find a junkie staggering out away to find there next fix !

Sadly the Territorial Army building is falling in to disrepair at a unimaginal rate with people free to wander in and out at there own Leisure and it isn't the first time i have seen junkies and alcoholics staggering out, In what was once a building governed by respect, leadership and duty to our country now acts as a quick place to drink your bottle of Elderado or take your next fix of Heroin.

Saved by the quick action of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue just a few months ago the once Elegant building now still stands derilict with anyone being able to walk in. with smashed windows, collapsed ceilings and Graffiti all over the inside of the building, Even the rats now wear protective clothing entering the building its got that bad.

Paisley may not be doing great in the current economic climate but if the worst came to the worst regarding this magnificent building do you think it would be saved ..... i dont think so you just have to look at the former half timers school in 1998 paisley people were horified when for the second time fire ravaged the building, then on boxing day of that year gale force winds caused even more damage leaving the building in ruins and it keeps getting passed from owner to owner and remains a unsightly blop in the landscape.

What do you think ? regarding the once Territorial Army building please let us all know.

I would like to know WHY,this building is being allowed to fall deeper and deeper into a state of disrepair??
Whats the reason behind it??
As you say WE,the half timers school came to a sad end,and I dont think council should be allowed to sit back and let this happen
Arnotts is going the same way and please dont forget our beloved Regal cinema, what a disgrace this building got so bad it couldnt be saved
Hopefully someone will listen, surely this could be turned into apartments or even UNI takeover!!

I remember passing there as a little girl in the fifties and looking at this beautiful building in awe,so please dont let any more of our High St be demolihed or left to ROT!!

We'll soon have nothing left!!
No wonder Paisleys a GHOST TOWN

Why is the council leting this happen. Does the T A Building belong to them, if so something has to be done make it into apartments they would be wonderful or if you have to accommodation for the University. As I have said before I could see it from our kitchen window in George street every time you looked up there was this magnificent building, I also passed it often either walking as a child or on the bus when I was older. Paisley Council if you are responsible for this you have to stand up and do something about it. I have not been in Paisley for 23 years and thank goodness I have the wonderful memories of the town I grew up in and not the town it is now. I have to admit my heart will always be in Paisley. Even although I have been down under for 28 years. Please help us. Alice

Hi alice,

I imagine the council's hands are tied to a certain extent, as i was trawling through the internet and its not them who own it, im going to start tomorrow to see if there was planning applications ever lodged

I am also concerned about the state of the building and was asked a good few times about who owns the building, well its not the Council, its not the Uni or Reid Kerr as I had been told, its a private owner and they had a planning application in to convert it to flats.. see the Blog for more info and links.

What I would maybe suggest is rather than all of us "quite rightly" say we are appalled and wish for something to happen so that the building does not suffer the same fate as the Half timers for example is ..

we need to gather ideas about what this building can be used for..

we need to take direct action, and no I don't mean chaining ourselves to the front door of the building, which I suppose would be interesting and might actually get press coverage... hmmmm right wheres those chains again lol..

We could all council bash till the cows come home, but as far as I am made aware is that the council do care what happens to the building but its in private ownership..

If anyone notices any behaviour around the building that looks like anything suspicious should report it to the Council planning department ...0141 842 5811/5822
