My name is Marlene Urso and I live in the Sierra Mountains of California. I am a historical romance writer. My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend 23 days in Scotland and we both fell in love with everything Scottish. My grandparents were Scottish (Aitken and Kirkpatrick). I joined the forum because I want to learn all I can about Paisley and Scotland. When we visited, I felt like I had come home.

Not sure exactly how to use the forum as far as posting questions and joining in on discussions. I'd like to ask about one of my Aitken great grandfathers.

Hi Marlene and welcome to Paisley.org. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Scotland and I hope you will enjoy the Paisley website.

As far as tracing ancestors goes, Westender and Nancy are very knowledgeable and should be on a bit later so perhaps they can help you.

Best wishes

Thank you Yvonne. I know Callendar well as during our wonderful time in Scotland we stayed in a beautiful B&B there and did a lot of exploring. I will get my genealogy books out and see what I have. We've had a medical emergency this week so now that things have settled and my hubby is starting to feel better, I will have time to check the books. I'll let you know if I find anything that might be interesting. My mother did five three-inch thick books on the family so I have pages to go through.

Hi Yvonne,

Yes, I also have Paisley connections. George Aitken born in Paisley in 1836 was my great, great grandfather. I am not sure what is in the books yet, but will try to pull them out and check. My grandmother's family were of the Gordons and my grandfather was a Kirkpatrick of the Douglases.

I love history and am a historical romance writer...not published as of yet, but am at least winning in contests now. I write under the name of Paisley Kirkpatrick - and I get so many compliments on it. I loved the hours we were able to explore Paisley and certainly hope to get back there and explore some more.
