A unique event staged by intu Braehead shopping centre that allowed youngsters to find out what it was like to be an adult for a day has won a top national award.

The free Mini City activities event staged at the centre has won a prestigious Purple Apple Award for an event in the 2018 retail marketing Oscars.

The Mini City activities allowed four to 12 year olds to become adults and perform tasks from daily life in an environment adapted to their size.

Youngsters got hands-on experience of becoming a police officer, building worker, doctor, or working in a restaurant and supermarket.

Staff organised interactive role-play for youngsters, giving them an amazing insight into adulthood. Everyone taking part was given a Mini City clock-in card and ‘employees’ who visit every workstation were rewarded for their hard work.

Marketing manager for intu Braehead, Christine Macdonald said: “We realised youngsters like role-playing especially when they can act like grown-ups, so we created various real-life scenarios for them to experience.

“The team here at intu Braehead are always looking at new and innovative ways of engaging with young people and families and we aim to put a smile on the faces of everyone who visits us.

The Mini City was one of the most popular events we’ve had in the centre and we’re chuffed to bits that intu Braehead has been recognised by the Purple Apple Awards for creating such a compelling experience.”
