Home and building owners in Paisley are to be shown how to check and maintain their properties to ensure they are weather tight this winter at a free event led by local building experts and Renfrewshire Council.
The Look Up! event will take place on Saturday 27 January from 1.30pm – 3.30pm at Paisley Museum where locally based conservation architect Fiona Sinclair will give a presentation and lead a walking tour around Paisley town centre. During the event she will highlight typical maintenance issues and answer questions from participants.
The annual Look Up! event highlights the main ways to save your home from the impacts of wet weather and damp by doing simple checks such as; checking roofs, gutters, downpipes and drains.
The event is being run as part of Renfrewshire Council’s £4 million Townscape Heritage Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme 2 (TH.CARS 2), which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and Renfrewshire Council. The project aims to make the area around the High Street a more attractive place to visit and invest.
Leader of Renfrewshire Council, Councillor Iain Nicolson, said: “The Look Up! event is a great opportunity for people to get free expert advice on how to protect their homes and properties from the elements this winter.
“Through the TH.CARS 2 programme we want to help home and building owners repair and improve their premises to help increase business interest. By investing in our built environment we will encourage more visitors and businesses to the area which will in turn increase footfall in the town centre and reduce the number of vacant properties.
“I would encourage any interested parties to head along to the event later this month to find out more.”
Fiona Sinclair said: “Look Up! demonstrates how taking simple steps to keep your building dry will stop expensive repairs and positively impact on fuel bills.
“This event will give people practical advice and guidance on how they can make their properties and homes weather secure and warm this winter and help people identify potential problem areas before they become an issue.”
